Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is the art, science and philosophy of removing the interference that prevents the body from healing completely. It is what orthodox medicine is not. While medicine uses pain killers, muscle relaxants or antihistamine to reduce pain, chiropractic looks first at the spine to find the source of the pain. Chiropractic is a great alternative to consider before surgery or epidural or steroid injections. Many people are now moving to chiropractic as the largest, drug-free healing profession in the world. Chiropractic gets sick people well and prevents the healthy from getting sick.

Chiropractic care is a branch of healthcare that is based upon the understanding that optimal health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system (especially the spine and the nerves extending from the spine to all parts of the body). “Chiropractic” comes from the Greek word Chiropraktikos, meaning “effective treatment by hand.” Today, chiropractic has evolved where instruments are also used for treatment.

Chiropractic stresses the idea that the cause of many disease processes begins with the body’s inability to adapt to its environment. It looks to address these diseases not by the use of drugs and chemicals, but by locating and adjusting am area of the body which is functioning improperly.

Chiropractic philosophy aims to get to the root cause of a health problem rather than just treat the symptoms. The goals is to maximize the natural strengths of the body and its capacity to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The primary focus of chiropractic is the detection, reduction and correction of the body's dysfunction.

FAQ for Chiropractic Care

To receive the doctor of chiropractic degree, candidates must complete extensive undergraduate prerequisites and four years of graduate-level instruction and internship at an accredited chiropractic institution.

Pregnant mothers find that chiropractic adjustments improve their comfort during pregnancy and make delivery easier for themselves and their baby. Adjusting methods are always adapted to a patient’s size, weight, age, and condition of health. We also have tables specifically designed to specially accommodate their growing bellies should they need to be in the prone position.

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest, drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of headache, and neck and back pain. It has an excellent safety record. However, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. Even common over-the-counter medicines carry a risk.

Your spinal column is a series of movable bones (vertebra), which begin at the base of your skull and end at the center of your hips. Thirty-one pairs of spinal nerves extend down the spine from the brain and exit through a series of openings. The nerves leave the spine and form a complicated network that influences every organ, tissue and cell of your body. When a spinal vertebra shifts out of alignment, it may put damaging pressure on the spinal nerves causing interruption to the vital nerve flow within your body. This condition is referred to as Vertebral Subluxation and is the cause of most of the unwanted conditions people suffer from every day.

When the vertebrae are subluxated, the nerve passageway is blocked, and the life energy flowing through the nerve can be choked off. Any spinal imbalance will cause areas of the spinal column to work harder in order to compensate for the area that is out of balance. This interferes with your body’s innate healing ability and lowers your resistance.

Vertebral Subluxation is the result of not properly maintaining the spine. The most current research shows that the spine should be maintained throughout life, from the beginning. Properly maintained, the model spine can easily last 120-150 years with minimal degeneration or arthritis. The ideal shape of the spine represents an amazing balance between all the forces of nature that constantly challenge us- such as compression, tension and shear. How efficient we are at resisting these forces is directly related to our health.

Unfortunately, distortion of the spine is epidemic today. Due to overwhelming and repetitive forces of modern life coupled with physical traumas, motor vehicle accidents, poor posture from computer use and mobile gadgets, emotional and mental stress, the spine becomes subluxated and malformed. The resulting vertebral subluxation complex has been found to be the underlying cause of many health problems. When the spine is misaligned or subluxated it will wear down or degenerate at a much more rapid rate, just as a car tire will wear down when not properly aligned.

It is important to understand that although chiropractic care is very effective in reducing pain, chiropractic is not based on pain. It is incorrect to rely on how we feel to determine how healthy we are. By the time you have a symptom it means that the problem or abnormal function has been there for a long time. For instance:

In 40% of people having heart disease, the first symptom is death from a heart attack. Many terminal cancer patients have no pain or symptom until the late stages. Significant degeneration of the spine can occur without symptoms. If you rely on symptoms, or already have some, your health could seriously be in jeopardy.

For instance, some people seek care because of a specific pain or area of trouble in their bodies. For them, they will stop treatment as soon as their problem becomes less apparent. With simple conditions like sinusitis, as few as 4-8 treatments may stop the sinus problems. With other conditions, like dystonia or severe spinal problems, treatment could last sixty treatments without exhausting the potential for continued optimal improvement.

Some have larger, less concrete goals when they receive therapy. If a person wishes to optimize their bodily functions or they have serious or complicated conditions affecting their health, treatment can be more of an open-ended situation; they can get treatments over the course of a longer time period.

Either of these plans can be right for the individual. Some people may even change their concepts as treatment progresses, and this is fine too. The nature of Functional Cranial Release (FCR) treatment, with its typically long lasting results, allows a person to stop treatment at almost any time (after the completion of each treatment sequence).

A person’s body changes at different rates–No two persons have the same identical body type. This is because people have different genetic forms and different life experiences. By the time people come to me for treatment, they are unique, individual structures.

In a way, people are like puzzles for me to untangle. Some puzzles are easier to solve than others, and some people’s bodies change more quickly than others. I never know how fast a person will change. I never know how much a person will move from a single treatment. I never know what tomorrow’s treatment will cause or require. I simply, continually release the obstructions in a person’s mechanical structure that prevents them from moving towards the ideal structure their body was designed to have, free of deformity of life’s traumas.
